Ginkgo 2013 vs 2009
Looking at older pictures, I’ve started to notice how much this tree has been swelling at the base (left side), mainly due to sucker shoots which I constantly remove during the growing season. I don’t think there’s much I can do about it, so hopefully it doesn’t become too grotesque.
I would try letting one shoot grow unrestricted near the top, this will draw the energy away from the base so you get less suckering. This sacrifice branch can be at the back and removed each second year. Hopefully the bark will gradually start to smooth out. or at least start to reverse the problem with this awesome tree!
